Unitek USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (Y-3461) Review!

Unitek USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (Y-3461) Review!

This month (December 2013) has been filled with a ton of USB accessories but I can say hands down that this is the best ethernet adapter I have reviewed, yet. You can purchase it via Amazon US for about $13 ($12.99) and special thanks to our friends at Unitek for sending this out to review. We are looking into talking to them to bring you some awesome reviews for 2014.

Part 1

When you order and receive yours you should notice that you receive the adapter itself along with an installation CD and Quick Installation Guide. Personally, I had to use the installation CD but it was painless and effortless. Otherwise, you can automatically install the adapter if you’re using Windows 7/8 or Mac OS X. There’s not too much inside the packaging, or special about the packaging, so lets move on. Please Note: I don’t believe that this review will be extra long but I will go into as much detail as I can about the pros and cons.

Part 2

Which leads me into the glossy finish. I can’t stand glossy finishings since they are literally “finger-print magnets” and I find myself wiping it so often. I do like the compact and professional design but the glossy finish really brings down the value to me and my standards. I’m not sure of other finishes could replace the glossy finish but at the moment I can deal with it a little longer. I only use it when I’m traveling. It’s mainly for people that have a laptop that don’t have a built in ethernet adapter, such as MacBooks and ultrabooks.

Part 3

Looking on top of the product you will see Unitek’s logo which is positioned well. Also, the product name is present which covers a little more of the glossy finish that you’re gonna have to wipe down some day. Last, but not least, is the two LEDs that light up when there’s power. The color green represents activity between the computer and the enternet cable. It’s great since the one I reviewed from HooToo and Sabrent didn’t include this indicator and find that it was difficult to know when I have data being used.

Part 4

The port that’s built inside is a gigabit ethernet port which allows you to receive a higher performance without a higher price. This is fantastic since there’s a USB 3.0 port that plugs directly into your computer. These work hand-in-hand so you can surf the Internet, view multimedia, and stay connected without any dropped connections. I had no problems whatsoever but did find that once you plug the adapter to your computer it will take about 3-5 minutes to finally become usable.

In a nutshell, this ethernet adapter is worth your money if you need it due to your computer not having a built-in ethernet port. I can’t deal with the glossy but others may find it sexy and beautiful. I do recommend the product as a gift, stocking stuffer, or small upgrade to your computer experience.
